The Original
The Bakehouse, modeled after European artisanal bakeries, began operations in August of 1995. There are only 12 other bakeries in the U.S. selling Michael London’s licensed bread recipes. Scholars Inn purchased the bakery in the summer of 2001. Bakehouse breads and pastries are currently sold at several Bloomington and Indianapolis locations including Farmers’ Markets, multiple retail outlets, and both Scholars Inn Gourmet Café and Wine Bar restaurants. Over the years the Bakehouse has received numerous awards for its bread, including being selected as the best bakery by Indianapolis Monthly Magazine in 1998. The Bakehouse also offers breakfast sandwiches, pizzas, salads, soups, wine, coffee, teas, and our signature line of homemade retail items.
College Mall
Opened November 2004, this Bakehouse is the first stand alone bakery Café facility for Scholars Inn. This is the newest of the Scholars family and will most likely serve as the “blueprint” for any future Bakehouse growth. Hot breakfasts including omelets are being added to the traditional menu. Additionally, a drive-thru has been implemented.
