Sparkling wine is an effervescent wine that can be made anywhere in the world and from any grape type. Champagne is also an effervescent wine, but can only be made from 3 varietals in the Champagne region of France. Not only does bubbly stimulate the appetite, but it can be sipped and savored throughout an entire meal.

• Pinot Gris

Gris, French for “gray,” refers to the grayish hue of this grape’s skin. Pinot Grigio, as Pinot Gris is called in Italy, produces wines that are crisp, light and dry. Although this varietal can also produce more rich, complex and sweeter styles, the wines are nevertheless cheery, lighthearted and undemanding.

• Sauvignon Blanc

• Petite Sirah and Petite Verdot

Petite Sirah and Petite Verdot have traditionally been used as blending grapes for other varietals to give them zest and complexity. Both these varietals can be dark, rich, peppery, and tannic, but can also be polished and elegant with good aging ability.

• Merlot

In French, the word Merlot means “young blackbird,” alluding to the grape’s dark blue color. Initially planted for blending, this varietal began to gain a reputation of its own in the late 1970s. Often noted are soft tannins, black currants, cherry and mint.

• Syrah / Shiraz

The ancient Syrah grape (also known as Shiraz) has been grown in France since Roman times. Shiraz is now Australia’s most widely planted red grape. These tannic wines exhibit spice, pepper, black currant, smoke and plum.

Malbec is one of the blending Bordeaux grapes that is used to give spice and character to some of the world’s most fantastic wines. We feel that Malbec can stand on its own, especially when grown in Argentina. You’ll find jammy, expressive wines here with medium to full body & a zesty finish. We know you’ll love them as much as we do!

French wine was frequently embargoed in the late 17th century during the chronic wars between England and France. Thus England often turned to Portugal, creating a market for Portuguese wines that continues to flourish today. • Sherry

A fortified wine made in southern Spain initially used as a method to preserve wine. Fortification is the addition of brandy in order to stop the fermentation process. This helps retain some natural sweetness and increase the wine’s alcohol content.
